Compared with ULE and other metal materials, silicon carbide (SiC) has outstanding advantages in specific stiffness, and is easy to achieve the light weight of the mirrors. The mirror blank made of silicon carbide is about 2 times lighter than ULE material.
SiC material has high thermal stability, resistance to thermal deformation is very strong, can maintain the surface shape of the mirror.
SiC material has become a new strategy for large mirror fabrication and has been widely used in large aperture space telescope systems. SiC mirror for satellite application is also widely used.
SiC mirrors are usually grinded and prepolished by CCOS, then fine-polished by MRF or IBF.
The SiC mirror produced by MG-Optics uses advanced gel injection molding technology. The slurry formula of high solid phase and low viscosity gel injection molding enables the solid content of silicon carbide slurry to reach more than 69.5%, while the viscosity is less than 1.5Pa.s, which meets the requirements of 2mm channel pouring. Within 1 hour curing time, the strength of the dry billet is >26MPa.
At the same time master a variety of mold preparation and use methods: stamping molding, pouring molding, etc.
Combined with advanced mold technology, the problem of demoulding is solved, and various complex shapes, hollow semi-closed lightweight ceramic billet structures can be prepared.
Low-stress crackless drying process of RB-SiC
Using the phased drying process, the drying process is gentle, the shrinkage deformation is small, and there is no crack.
The reaction sintering process is used to sintering silicon carbide, which has low raw material cost, excellent material properties, shrinkage deformation <1% in drying + sintering and large molding size.
Our SiC mirror features a meticulously engineered lightweight design that significantly reduces the overall weight of your systems without compromising on structural integrity or optical performance. This makes it an ideal choice for space applications where every gram counts.
The precision of our SiC mirrors is second to none, surface accuracy can reach 1/100 RMS or better. Each mirror undergoes rigorous testing to guarantee optimal surface accuracy and reflectivity, ensuring clear, undistorted images and data transmission essential for satellite imaging and communication systems.
MG-Optics will also provide you optical Aspheric Mirror, Optical Flat , Optical Metrology, custom CGH , Optical System and Optical Mirror Blank.
